The performance was
fabulous, fascinating. I really, really loved it. An inspired dancer! I am convinced
that the source of all our philosophy lies in our scriptures. This is our wealth
and should be researched as she has done. (Naphisa Chinoy)
My comments this time
are really quite personal to my own interest because this idea of looking back
at the shastras which, of course, were based on the practice of the time, and
trying to understand them again in order to reconnect with what has become obscured
by time is a theme in which I am particularly interested. My interest is naturally
in the musical shastras but so much reference and demonstration of the Natya
Shastra was especially interesting. I know that Sandhya Purecha, as she herself
said, would like to demonstrate more of her research and that of her gurujis
and I know it is rather a scholarly and specialist subject but it would be very
good to see. She does it so very beautifully. I think her work and her message
about this connection is very important for the future of Indian art whether
dance or music and, as I say, is a theme close to my own area of interest.

And congratulations to Sargam for bringing two such innovative and exciting performances to the London stage. Both Vyjayanthi and Sandhya gave us finely-balanced programmes of great educational value and aesthetic pleasure. (Richard Turner, editor, Veena Magazine)
