VOCAL AUDITIONS

The internationally renowned India-born soprano, Patricia Rozario has
pleasure in inviting solo singers, choristers and vocal students to a
vocal audition of two three-hour sessions, which she will conduct in
various cities of India in August 2009. She welcomes young singers from
the ages of 15 to 25 years (and singers with exceptional talent outside
of this age-range) with a good voice and a love for singing to
participate with a simple piece/song for about 5-7 minutes. The
entrants may sing unaccompanied or with accompaniment (in which case
they must bring their own accompanist). Assistant teachers and choir
members are also welcome to join. Choir masters may kindly choose 4-5
of their best singers. This audition is being set up with the aim of
identifying local talent within India, singers who will benefit from
long-term training by Patricia Rozario. Those chosen from amongst the
candidate singers will be coached by her in a series of regular
workshops, the first of which will be held at the end of 2009 or
beginning 2010. Further coaching will continue, on a regular basis,
through 2010 and beyond. Patricia Rozario will also, on the occasion of
the audition, be happy to talk about vocal techniques and answer any
questions from candidate singers, teachers and choir directors. Such
long-term training aspires to raise the standard of singing, to train
students in the art of teaching or even equip them for higher training
in the west, should they attain the grades. It hopes, above all, to
encourage an interest in singing, to create a yearning to learn vocal
music by opening up performance opportunities within an ever-increasing
operatic space in India. Patricia Rozario seeks, through this audition,
to listen to what is available in a spirit free of competition, to have
a generous, not critical, glimpse of the potential that exists. We
encourage you to avail of this unique opportunity to learn from one of
India’s most reputed artists, presently teaching at the Royal
College of Music in London and committed to sharing, with you, her vast
teaching experience in the field she has mastered and where she has
gained international recognition. The auditions – and
performances - by Patricia Rozario are being organized by leading
cultural organizations within each city.
