GAURAV MAZMUDAR & SHAHBAZ HUSSAIN

Gaurav Mazumdar was an accomplished Violinist, when he was discovered in 1985 by Sitar Maestro Ravi Shankar, who was so impressed by Gaurav's talent that he accepted him as his disciple in the true Guru Shishya Parampara tradition (like a Son.) In the world of Indian Classical Music it is not easy to step out of your Guru's Shadow but Gaurav has managed to do just that. Since 1993 Gaurav has performed worldwide to packed Houses and dazzled Critics and Audiences alike. He has released 4 Albums and is working on the fifth Album. In addition Pandit Ravi Shankar has released a special CD set " Raga Mala" which is a celebration of Music performed by his disciples and Gaurav has recorded 2 Ragas especially composed by Ravi Shankar for him. He is also the first Indian Musician to have performed for the Pope inside the Vatican in Oct'99.

Shahbaz Hussain was born into a family of famous musicians. He learned to play the tabla from legends like Ustad Faiyaz Khan, Ustad Shaukat and the late Ustad Allah Rakha who did accompany Ravi Shankar for 27 years. He obtained the prestigious Sangeet Visharad degree from Prayag Sangeet Samiti of Allahabad. Shahbaz has emerged an extremely versatile percussionist holding all the imperative traditional skills of tabla. He has toured and performed internationally, accompanying many of the leading musicians of indian classical music.
