Chiranjib Chakraborty
CHIRANJIB CHAKRABORTY, one of the top ranking vocalist of Indian classical music in Europe, he is able to demonstrate a high degree of creativity and versatility in bringing to life a wide ranging musical repertoire—pulsating ancient Dhrupad music and sublime songs of light classical music as well as today’s fusion styles and classical ragas. His music sparkles with the very rare combination of virtuosity with classical purity, along with a deep sense of aesthetics.
From a tender age, Chiranjib has been receiving musical guidance from the acclaimed veteran musician, Pandit Nidan Bandhu Banerjee of Rampur and Gwalior Gharanas. From 1993 onwards, he has been associated with the ITC Sangeet Research Academy as a student under the eminent Indian musician, Pandit Arun Bhaduri.
From 1997 to 2001, he remained attached as a teacher with Shrutinandan, a musical institution of Calcutta founded by Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. He has also received guidance and talims from Pandit Ajoy Chakrabarty. Currently, he started learning Karnatic vocal music from the Maestro Dr. M. Balamuralikrishna.
Chiranjib’s style of blending Rampur, Gwalior and Patiala Kasur Gharanas has particularly been appreciated by the music circles of India and abroad. His tonal quality and ability to exercise control over sur and taal has drawn special attention from music lovers.
As a vocalist, he has performed in many major music festivals throughout India and abroad. He is currently living in London where he successfully composes and directs music for many musical projects in Europe and India. He presently works for Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as a lecturer for the B. Mus. Degree course under the auspices of Trinity College of London.
It is a great pleasure to mention that Chiranjib has recently been honoured as “Fellow” (FTCL) by Trinity College of London in Indian Vocal Music.
